Restrain Introduces a Webinar Series

The Power of Restrain – Episode 1: Women in Agriculture

We recently launched the first episode of our new webinar series, The Power of Restrain –
and what better way to begin than by introducing two of the newest voices in our team and in
the wider agricultural space: Annabel Rowbottom and Kelly Holman.

Hosted by Dan Hewitt, the episode explores their first few months at Restrain, the surprises
and challenges of working in agriculture, and why they’re excited about the future. As
women entering what remains a male-dominated industry, their insights offer a fresh and
important perspective.

Different Backgrounds, Shared Purpose

Annabel, who grew up on a farm, was drawn to Restrain because of our sustainable, safe, and
forward-thinking approach to potato storage and treatment. For her, joining Restrain was a
natural step that combined her love of being on the ground with a new technical challenge in
potato crop management.

Kelly, who joined from a leading FMCG brand, reflected on the transition from managing
processed food products to working directly with crops at source. Having spent years in
structured, corporate environments, moving into the unpredictable, boots-on-the-ground
world of farming has been both eye-opening and rewarding.

Facing the Challenges Firsthand

Both Annabel and Kelly stepped into their roles during a difficult growing season, giving
them a first-hand look at the real challenges farmers face – from unpredictable weather to
shifting timelines. Kelly spoke candidly about how easy it had once been to overlook what
comes before the end product, and how she now deeply admires the resilience of the growers
we support.

Annabel, used to working closely with local farmers, found the shift to a global business with
international reach to be a significant, but exciting adjustment. Restrain operates in over 36
countries with a small but dedicated team – a reality that’s both demanding and energising.

Why People Matter Most

Both agree that the most rewarding part of their work is being out in the field, face-to-face
with farmers. Despite advances in technology, we believe nothing replaces real conversations
– whether it’s hearing how the season is going, discussing how our ethylene-based solutions
are performing, or simply building trust over time.

Better Understanding, Stronger Industry

Kelly reflected on her past experience in buying and supply chain management, and the gap
in understanding that often exists between processors and growers. If more people across the
industry worked together – with empathy and clarity – it could reduce pressure on farmers and
lead to better outcomes for everyone.

We’re proud to have Annabel and Kelly as part of the Restrain team. Their perspectives –
both as women in agriculture and as professionals who’ve embraced the complexity of the
crop cycle – bring huge value to our mission.
